“Outside of my work, I stay grounded through movement—whether it’s swimming, yoga, or dancing to a great playlist. I also love spending time with my family, friends, and my dogs, who always keep life interesting. I know firsthand how important it is to find balance, and I bring that same understanding and energy into my work with clients.”
About
I am a board-certified doctorally prepared psychiatric nurse practitioner in private practice on the upper west side of Manhattan. I have more than 20 years of experience in psychiatric nursing and more than 12 years practice as a nurse practitioner. I completed both my graduate and doctorate training at NYU. I have international mental health experience as a volunteer with Doctors Without Borders; 8 years of experience in inpatient psychiatric hospital settings. For the past 9 years, I have been working with graduate and undergraduate students in the NYU Student Health Center where I am a member of the Integrative Medicine, Gender and Sexuality, and Psychiatry Teams as well as co-leader of the Trauma Team.
I currently hold appointments at Columbia University School of Nursing as Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing where I teach a class in psychopharmacology and, at NYU College of Nursing as Clinical Instructor supervising graduate NP students.
My goal for you is simple: I want you to leave my office feeling better than when you walked in. This may include working on relaxation techniques, cognitive or dialectical behavioral strategies, or recommendations about exercise, diet, and sleep hygiene. I have training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help address trauma-related symptoms. Genetic testing can be done to help determine how you will respond to and metabolize specific medications thus avoiding several months of medication trial trial-and-error. There may be dietary changes or supplements that I will recommend to support your optimal health. I do not believe that taking a pill will cure a person of all that ails them. Human beings are complex and dynamic. There are a host of issues, both genetic and environmental, that contribute to mental health or illness. I will work with you in a holistic approach to determine the best individualized treatment plan for you. Sometimes it is the inertia that prevents us from moving forward. We will explore the reasons for your struggles. We may decide that additional interventions are appropriate as well, including mind and body practices such as acupuncture, yoga, chiropractic and osteopathic manipulation, and meditation. For these approaches outside referrals can be recommended to address your specific needs.
